Yet another veteran of the Bengal School and disciple of the legendary Nandalal Bose.
Ramananda Bandopadhyay was born in 1936. His favourite subject is the innumerable tales of the deities of Indian Mythology and his colour scheme takes inspiration from “the green of the betel leaf, the lime’s white, the catechu’s brown and the red of the juice of chewed pan that turned my mother’s lips into a pair of pure gems”.
Having been brought up under the strong influence of the teachings of Ramkrishna Mission, he spent much of his life as Director of the Art Museum and Gallery at the Ramkrishna Mission in Kolkata. Old school, rustic in theme and simple, Ramananda is an all time classic. |
